Brent Ruru Funeral Celebrant / MC
Brent began working in the funeral industry during 2017 being engaged as an independent Funeral Celebrant, officiating in the Christchurch and Canterbury region.
A humbling privilege to officiate funeral and private memorial services, and in most instances, also being asked to capture, weave, and share the loved one’s unique life story as part of their ‘celebration of life’ ceremony.
Brent acknowledges that it is important when meeting with families and whānau that the Funeral Celebrant is someone they immediately feel a connection with.
And passionate that when engaged, the stewardship is exceptional for it to be meaningful, seamless, and significant, so that it’s remembered long after the ceremony itself.
Brent holds the Diploma in Celebrant Studies and is a validated member of the Celebrants Aotearoa New Zealand organisation.
The Role of the Funeral Celebrant / MC
The role of the Funeral Celebrant or MC is to facilitate and officiate (lead) the funeral/memorial service on the day, making sure everything the family has chosen to happen, falls into place with respect, dignity, warmth, perhaps some sincere gentle humour thrown in when telling a story.
An order of service can be formal or informal and include aspect’s structure, eulogy, family tributes, photo presentation, open floor speaking, hymns, song or readings, committals, and so on.
The eulogy is the capturing, weaving, and sharing the deceased loved one’s life story, and is generally the heart of the ceremony.
However, as much as it about the deceased, it is also a significant “goodbye” journey for the living left behind.
