Brent’s personal story …

Is there such a thing as ‘Good Grief?’

My mum died some 35 years ago this September 2024 at the age of 56.  I was 23.

She was a prolific garderner, both vegetable and floral and I remember the vibrant orange tiger lillies she grew that graced our home inside.  Their scent was like incense throughout the house to bring outdoor fragrance in.

As Claire (my wife) and I cycled across Europe during 2023, in a village in Germany, I came across a house where they had the vibrant orange tiger lillies from one side of the front boundary to the other.

Claire was ahead of me. I stopped in awe to absorb what I was seeing.

I remember looking skywards and then back at the lillies with a heartfelt grin to utter the words, “Miss you mum”.

Then carried on cycling with my mum in my thoughts for the next short while.

Is there such a thing as ‘Good Grief?’

I believe there is.
