What’s the difference between the roles of a Funeral Director and a Funeral Celebrant?
Funeral Director
The Funeral Director is someone who provides all the transactional wrap around services associated with administering funeral arrangements – for example, the transfer of the deceased; advice on care options like embalming or not; arranging the service venue, day and time; helping with casket, service sheet, newspaper notice, photo presentation, and/or catering option choices, and the like.
They also sort the death certificate and engage a Funeral Celebrant to officiate the funeral / memorial service on the day.
Funeral Celebrant
The Funeral Celebrant not only leads the funeral service on the day, but works with the family to facilitate what their service structure may look like that could include a eulogy, family tributes, photo presentation, open floor speaking, hymns or readings, committals and the like.
The Funeral Celebrant also assists families with the eulogy with capturing, weaving and in most instances, sharing the loved one’s life story.
Hopefully that clarifies what the difference is between the two distinct role functions that sometimes overlap and therefore causes confusion.
